The landlord's design review
Malls in Dubai publish tenant design criteria covering the shopfront line, signage, materials, lighting levels and even the colour temperature of lamps. Drawings are reviewed and returned with comments before work can begin, and the fit-out is inspected before opening. Contractors who regularly work in your mall know its process and its people, which shortens both stages.
Design for the customer's path
Good retail layouts guide customers from the entrance past the products the business most wants seen, with clear sightlines to the counter and fitting rooms. Lighting does much of this work: brighter on merchandise, softer in circulation. The stockroom, often an afterthought, needs enough space and a delivery route that does not cross the shop floor during trading.
