Plumbing before pretty
Every backwash basin, pedicure station and treatment-room sink needs water supply and drainage, and in many commercial units drainage points are few and far apart. The layout is planned around where waste can run with enough fall, sometimes raising floors to get it. This is the single biggest technical decision in a salon fit-out.
Light for the work
Colourists need light that shows colour truthfully, at mirrors and stations, without glare or shadows on the client's face. Treatment and spa rooms need the opposite: warm, dimmable and calm. A salon lighting plan covers both, with controls the staff can actually use.
Nail bars and colour areas also need ventilation sized for the chemicals in use, which is planned with the air conditioning rather than added as a wall fan.
Finishes that take the wear
Floors and surfaces see water, dye and constant cleaning. Porcelain, sealed concrete and quality vinyl outlast softer finishes, and joinery near wash areas should be built from moisture-resistant boards with sealed edges.
